We installed a Magix R4 and we are having a problem assigning the 2 ports to calling group 770. I went to the calling group members and calling group 770 like the book said, then tried to assign Ext 6703 and 6704 to 770. We get an error tone and it will not go. We know those are the ports because you can dial 6703 and 6704 and get to the main prompt of the voice mail but now we need to know what are we missing?

You said you installed a Magix R4 - I assume a Messaging module R4. Did you install it in the next empty slot? Did you do a board renumber after installing the new board? If not - you need to do that first. Was there a module in the slot before? The extention numbering range of 6703 and 6704 is quite unusual. If you are trying to add those two extentions as "members" for calling group 770 - and they do not take (error beep) - it is because those two extention numbers are already assigned to a different calling group. They have to be removed from the other calling group first - before they can be made members of 770. If you have WinSPM - the easiest way to see what the problem is - is to print a Group Calling report - and then look where those two extentions are currently assigned. You can also print and extention report for each of those extentions - that report will also show what, if any, calling groups those extentions are currently assigned to.

thanks, it is a magix r4 processor, newest release of vm, We have a 412, then 3 016 ETR cards and then the Voice mail. The customer wanted to keep the same extension numbers as their previous phone system, a partner II. Then only upgraded because they were having problems with that system and needed a new one, and were looking to have more than 48 extensions in the future, leaving us with the last few extensions as 67xx. We didnt have SPM because we couldnt get the cd in time, but I went to the avaya website and downloaded the latest version. we now have spm and will be going back monday to finish up the installation. it sounds like we probably do have them in multiple calling groups though. i didnt do much of the programming. also, we meant to put it in hybrid mode, but forgot. Would that have anything to do with it. we dont get to work on these systems much. mostly Partners. thanks again

Will leaving the extesnions in the 10 to 67 range eliminates flexibility.

If, or more like when, they out grow that dial plan, changing over will be painful. (As in having to create new mailboxes and other things)

So, I always recommend that they at least change to the 100 rang, thus, 10 becomes 110. (But I alwayws use 100)

Just some advice, take it or leave it.

I guess (if it were me) I would just wipe out all of the existing programming and start from scratch - unless there is some compelling reason not to do so (defaulting the processor twice - before starting). Starting with a "clean" slate is usually best. Putting the system in hybrid/pbx mode will not wipe out all existing programming - but may wipe out some previously programmed phone buttons. And, it will wipe out existing line assignments to calling groups (such as the voicemail calling group and any overflow calling group(s) - which in your case may be a good thing. In Hybrid/PBX mode all lines will be assigned to Pool 70.

Since you have WinSPM - if you can hook up remotely (even manually - by having someone transfer you in) to the processor modem - I would do a "Print All" and look through it for possible additional problems/conflicts. At a minimum I would run reports for the two extentions and for Group Calling.

As an added note - I would suspect they are currently using 777 as the voicemail calling group - because that is what Partner systems use.
