I can not get my MM to work. The main problem is adding the VM ports in coverage group/members. For some odd reason, the members will not take in the group. Voice mail answers when I dial the member numbers/port numbers individually, but I can not add it to my main group of 2488 (renumbered 770). Any help? Please. I'm drowning here. Thanks.

First, what version of VM?, what version of system? Second, you need to setup a VM Calling Group, usually 770 with only the VM ports in it, set as hunt type linear, and group type Integrated VM. Next you need to set up a Coverage Group, usually 30 - with all the extensions in it that neeed to be covered by VM. Then set 770 to provide coverage for Group 30. After that - it depends on the VM system/module you have. For Magix Messaging - VM ports need to be rotary enabled for the system to work. For some of the earlier systems you may need to setup an overflow group for 770 that is also pointed to the sutoattendant, etc.

Do I have to make the ports rotary before I attempt to add them as members to calling group?

Thanks in advance.

Doesn't make any difference - but you only have to that for a Magix Messaging not for a Legend Mail or Merlin Mail - and do it for all the ports covered by the port license card - same ports (extensions) that are in the VM Calling Group (770).

I have Magix Messaging. I have 4.0 Merlin Messaging. Do I need to make the ports rotary first, then add to call group. Because the main problem is not being able to add my VM ports to the 2488 (I renumbered 770) v-mail hunt group.

Why are you using 2488? If the VM ports are in the VM Calling Group already (use inspect to make sure they are all there), then you just go ahead and roraty enable each of the VM ports. The reason your VM is not working is because the VM ports are not rotary enabled. You may want to download the manual from Avaya.com (free) and just read through the installation chapter - it is pretty straightforward - or just use "VM autoconfigure" out of system programming - that option is explained in the manual as well.

Any progress?

Tom or either one can keep you from drowning....

Especially Tom....

I'm still underwater. The ports will NOT take in the VM calling group. I can not add my 6 ports (2500, 2501, 2502, 2503, 2504, and 2505).

Tom, I am using 2488, because that is a DID number, and I found a System Renumber-->Single-->Groups-->770 to 2488 was the easiest way to give them a direct dial for VM from the outside.

To repeat, 2500-2505 will just not take in the Group Calling-->Members-->2488-->xxxx

I just can't add them. Sinking quickly.

Thanks.

That's because the number you chose (2488)is way too high for a calling group number. Calling Groups I believe top out at 791 or 793 - I forget which. They start at 770. You need to go back to 770 as the VM Calling Group. If they want to call to check voice mail - all they do is dial their number - assuming you have assigned their extension a VM box. The AA will answer and they go right into their messages - unless there is something about DID I misunderstand. I have no clue why you need to use 2488 as a group number for the VM ports. If you need them the people with DID in a seperate calling group that is covered by VM - then put them in a seperate calling group (say 29 versus 30). I don't know much about DID trunks - but Merlinman may be able to help.

There's no reason you can't use 2488 as your calling group number - if you're in set up space, that is open.

Do a print of your dial plan, make sure there's no conflicts.

Try adding then ports by identifying them as "slot port". When it asks for the extension number, enter "*" and then 2 digits for the slot that the MM is in (remember the processor is slot 00, count up from there), and then two digits for the port (01, 02, 03, 04, 05, and 06)

In the event that you can't make 2488 the VM hunt group pilot number, make an adjunct that number, cover it to voice mail, and point it to the auto attendant.

Actually, DO A PRINT OF YOUR DIAL PLAN and post it here.

Then all of us can peruse it and figure out what needs to be done.

TTTommy is RIGHT ON with his advice, as well.

Just another reason why you wouldn't be able to add extension to a VMI hunt group is either that they are already in another VMI or generic hunt group. Did you verify the extensions on the card.....you as well can't add digital/hybrid phones to a VMI group.

If you used auto config option on the Magix the voice mail calling group will be something like 7929 for some reason. The voice mail ports will be assigned along with all of the extensions. You can renumber 7929 to 770 to make it more compatible with what we are used to. You may want to print calling group information and look at this.
