I have a Merlin Messaging module that the status light stays yellow. In looking at the board itself, I noticed a bank of four sets of pins for possible jumpers located near the back of the module. There are no jumpers on any of the pins. Could this be the problem?

thanks

What Merlin Messaging Release is it? (617A49, B49,C49). Most modules only have the three pins next to the Tolkin (torqouise), round capacitor. If that jumper is missing - the module has no battery back-up and will forget all programming as soon as the power is shut off or fluctuates. So you need to install a jumper the connects two of the three pins - connect the two last pins (going to away from the capacitor).

It is a C17A49 and I see the three pins near the cap. These pins are near the edge connector with no jumpers.

thanks

Those pins do not require a connector - they are all open. Perhaps you have experienced a hard drive failure. I would try to reset the module by yanking and after a few seconds reinserting the port license card. That will force a reset. You may also want to try it in a different slot. If the module was just installed - did you do a "board renumber"? Do you hear the hard drive power up and spin? If not - it could be a bad hard drive. You should also try connecting via the RS232 port and login as "tech1000" - using the admin mailbox password. Check the error log to see if it gives you some clues.

did everything you stated including replacing the drive. On start Status goes yellow and stays yellow, drive (both original and replacement) do not spool up. Hyperterm to serial port on bootup shows nothing, does not repond to any typing.

Doesn't sound good. If you hook up via hyperterminal and fire up the system - you should at least see the boot-up sequence - before you even log in. If you hit enter once on the keyboard, it should prompt you for a login name (tech1000) and a password. If that isn't happening - the board may be "bad". I don't know what else to suggest. I assume you can't log in through the LAN port either - although that really doesn't give you any troubleshooting info that I know of. Sounds like you need a replacement board and/or board-level repair to the module - assuming both drives you have tried - are working OK.
