I just reinstalled up a Legend 7.1 system with Merlin Messaging 2.5. It had been disconnected for about 3 months. The date and time were wrong both in the console and the voice mail. I reset both, but cannot get the autoattendant to answer nor can I get the voice mail to answer. Calls are being transferred to voicemail, but there is no answer. Lights 1-6 are lit on the Messaging Board, so I don't think there is any problem with the ports. And if I dial extension 60, the voice mail system answers with the prompt to enter a mailbox number. I can do the system administrator thing by entering 0 and #. But I can't figure out how to get voice mail to pick up. What am I doing wrong?

There are three things that have to be in line for voice mail to work:
1) Have an extension on the switch (i.e.Ext 123)
2) Have a mailbox that matches the extension (i.e., 123)
3) The extension on the switch must be in voice mail coverage, usually cover group 30 is used.
Then if 123 gets call, and is not answered, it goes to cover via. cover group, which is set to be covered by the VMS calling group.
A quick check is if you can get dialtone from switch, push #56 + the extnsion number the next thing to hear is the voice mail greeting for that extension. For Auto attendant transfer off a Merlin Messaging module, the voice mail ports (extensions) have to be "rotary enabled". That should do it.

When setting up group calling, can you advise what extension number to assign to the Merlin Messaging system for the voice messaging services. Does it have anything to do with 770?
 
You can use anything that falls within your dial plan; I have seen systems set up with the Voice Mail calling group renumbered to "5". Yeah, just 5. Also have seen them set up with a DID number, so users can call in from outside to pick up messages.

The default number for the first calling group is 770, so that is typically what is used. You could use any other calling group, or you could use 770 and renumber it to something else.

Also, cover group 30 is the last one, and is typically used as the Voice Mail cover group, although I have seen cover group 1 used as well.

In any event, the key is to document everyting, and make it easy for your users and future installers to figure out.
