My company's Octel 50 finally died. So I replaced it with a Merlin Messaging 2.5. The PBX is a Merlin Legend R7.0 V14.2 and I have setup everything correctly. There's only one hurdle I can find.

I can only do a Direct VM Transfer from the Legend to mailboxes that have a physical extension associated with them. Some mailboxes that don't have extensions associated with them are adjuncts so they work. But the vast majority of our mailboxes don't have a real extension or adjunct. How can I transfer callers to their mailbox?

In the Octel we could do this from the auto-attendant menu. But on the MM 2.5 we only get a prompt to enter the mailbox number and password. We just want to transfer callers to a mailbox to leave a message.

Any suggestions?

If you don't have the adjuncts to make the extensions in the Legend, make one adjunct extension that covers to VM, and when you make its mailbox, use option 3 to assign it to an Auto Attendant. Then you will transfer to that extension, wait for answer, dial the desired extension number, and disconnect.

Good idea. I also ran across the option in the Merlin Messaging AA where the caller can dial *8 and then choose a mailbox number. This works as well for manual transfers.

I unfortunately didn't have time to fully RTFM since this was an emergency surgery this morning :) But now I think we're set. Thanks for the feedback!
