I have a customer who has a Merlin Messaging 2.5 and a Magix 2.0 in key mode. They just want it to answer the lines and go straight to a mailbox in night mode, and delay answer in day mode. Then light a message light on extension 100. Also ext. 100 rings in day mode. Anyone know how to do this?

Make Ext. 100 the Principal User of the lines, cover it to Voice Mail, and give it a DND button.

If Ext. 100 is the principal user of the line will it not go directly to voicemail if the person is on the phone? I cannot have this happen.

No, you still have the group coverage rings to give them an opportunity to answer. Also, turn OFF abbriviated ring, so new calls while on an existing call make more than one ring sound, in case they are wrapped up in the call and miss the fact that a new call is arriving. You could also add a VM coverage OFF button to prevent it from covering at all.

Thank you for the valuable post. I was going to try that when I went back to the site but I was under the impression calls would go to voicemail if the person was on the phone. I have noticed that you have pretty good info that you have given to people. How long have you been installing the Avaya products?

Thanks - Avaya/Lucent/AT&T for 15 years, everything under the sun for 5 years before that, antique (candlestick phones, wooden wall phones, bakelite desk sets) and consumer sets for 5 years before that.

Yup! I'm a phone phreak!

Brill, I have been trying to solve that problem on my Merlin system for a while. I have tried this and it works perfectly. Many thanks
