Merlin Mail Release 3 - Password Reset

Is there a way to factory default a Merlin Mail Release 3?

We have resurrected a system that has not been used for some years. Nobody remembers the passwords, management ports or configuration.

We do have access to the back of the system, via null modem, and are sitting at the "Enter the system password" prompt.

Any suggestions would help.

I have an update.

I found the password and got into the serial port.

Now my question is, "How do I factory default the system?

I had missed the part about hitting [ESC] after shutdown. I was confusing myself when I saw the menu reappear.

Not so fast grasshopper!!!!

After I started the INIT command, I get this:
-----------------------------------------------------
An error has occurred in the program.

ERROR NUMBER: 2-255

ERROR CONTEXT:
INIT ,bdopen dft v9993001.dft

PRESCRIPTION:
[Prescription file not present or in use. Contact Technical Support.]

Any ideas?

OK.... based on the lack of response, I presume nobody had any ideas... except for the obvious "trash it" concept.

In any event, I fixed it, but the explanation is way to long.

In the future, if anyone has this same problem, drop me a line and I will let you know what I did.

Sounds like you did not "shut down" the voicemail system - before entering the "Init" command. You first have to choose Option B from the Menu to Shut Down the voicemail system - and wait for it to fully shut down - then press Esc - reenter the password and run the "init" command.
