How do you make a particular DID number the main pilot number and still keep x770 as the main internal pilot number?

Not sure why you would want a DID number to go to your voice mail group. Are you trying to have a DID go to automated attendant?

Renumber an adjunct to the DID you want
Add the Adjunct to the VM coverage group
change The cover rings to 1
Add a Mailbox with the class of service of the AA you want

The current pilot nmber is x770 the client wants it to be x759 which falls under their DID range. When end users want to check for their messages from the outside world they either have the recept. transfer to x770 or dial their out number and use a *7 from their own mailbox. They want to dial 212-892-6759 to check and get their messages. Please advise what to do.

Do what Ttech said, when they call 212-892-6759, the AA will answer, they dial *7 to login.

Do you really want a publically dialable number to be answered with an invitation to log in and check messages? Phone Phreaks go wild with that type of thing. That's the point of *7.
