I install Nortel and Partner at most of my locations I have been asked to replace several small motel locations with up to 250 rooms. The Nortels do not seem to have the available ports for these locations and can support 2500 sets.

Merlin Magix has been suggested to me for these applications. One of these sites has a SX50 for a 124 room site It says Generic Module on ite. Cusomter is telling me that it have to be rebooted about 10 times a day.

Any suggestions would be great. They are looking for AA and VM at all their sites Local Calling only.

Thanks!

I'm not sure what the question is.

The Merlin Magix handles up to 80 lines and 200 extensions. You can use the following telephones (depending on how the carrier is[are] carded):

4400 series
MLX
Partner
analog

The Avaya Merlin Messaging provides an auto attendant and up to 200 mailboxes.

If you're asking about the SX50, I think that is a Mitel system. If it is, you can post questions about it in the Mitel forum.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

I thought that a Magix would be able to handle this number of exts.. Someone told me that two of them can be networked together.

I am trying to come up with a standard platform that I could use in all of these customers sites. They range from 80 rooms to 300 rooms.

Any suggestions?

It would be expensive, but you could run 2 Magix systems side by side, put a T1 card in each, and a crossover cable to link them together. Each syste has its own internal Operator, and hotel guests will dial 0 for the front desk, so you'd need to put two phones side by side for the hotel operator. Some guests will come through one and the rest through the other, but that might be sorted out by floor or wing if you plan carefully.

If you want to provide voice mail for guests, look at Duvoice instead of Merlin Messaging.

I bought a used DuVoice for the shop to train myself on. It looks simple enough and I was impressed with their customer service.

One of the sites for this customer has a Definity however the cabinet was hugh.

Any other platforms that you can suggest that would be sensitive to space, cost effective, uses analog sets and would not require networking.

I looked at networking two Nortels but that is also expensive and takes up a lot of space.

It has been suggested to me to look at Mitel. This site is actually using a Mitel SX-50 but it is failing.

I was told that Mitel has been heavly embedded in motels and that they were used a lot by Bell in the Past.

This is a low budget chain and cost is an issue so I want to loot at older systems that have a lot of parts available.

I have looked at Merlin Magix the parts are a dime a dozen and are very reliable. Tow Magix can be networked together for a larger platform.

I can not provide any new equipment due to the cost. IP was estimated to cost 10,000.00 for this install. This is beyond the customers budget.

Another choice would be an Option 11 - they can be purchased on the secondary market fairly inexpensively.

Thank you. What is the programming interface? Set or Laptop?

The Meridian OP11 has serial ports that support modems or terminals. So a laptop with a serial port would work. You would also need a terminal application like Hyperterminal to communicate with it. Other interfaces may be available too.
