We would like to upgrade our Magix system. We are looking for this option if is available and that is keeping a caller id history and getting away from the convoluted way to retrieve messages. We are currently running magix release 1 ver6.0 in hybrid/pbx mode and the messaging system is 1.1.

What version do we upgrade to?

Caller Id history is a no go in any release. It doesn't matter if you even upgrade to a R3. The only option you would have is either a call accounting package and dump your calls from the SMDR port to go through them, or just hook up the smdr port to a pc with hyperterminal or a serial printer. As far as the convoluted was of retrieving messages.....what do you not like?? The press 2, 0 to listen???.

To basically answer your question, the next upgrade is to a R3 and you gain a lot of nice features, but none that you are looking for.

I dumnp mine to a PC (PROCOMM) and create an Excel spread sheet, after the fact.

Not easy, but at anytime, you can walk by the PC and see what caller ID you have received.

Not so much the 2,0 but haveing to dial my extension number when I'm at my desk. We had Bellsouth Essx for a while and all we did was dial the messaging systems and enter our passwords.

Thanks for the info.

Actually, I never understood that. The Messaging knows where the call is coming from by the use of the mode codes. We as well, sell the Voicegate VM, and it has the option to either dectect the extension calling and then ask for the password, or dial you number, dial your passcode. I guess it made things simplier for people, know matter what phone they are at, they can check their messages the same way. Avoids the confusion.

If you're calling from your own extension to Merlin Messaging, you can just press # instead of entering your own extension number and #. You still need to enter your password and # after that. So, hit the check voice mail button, when it answers dial #-(password)-# and you're in.

Thanks TouchToneTommy. I would alos like to know if we have to buy a "new" control unit or if we could buy the pcmcia card that will upgrade to r3.0. Our current card has a CKE5 proc in it.

The CKE5 is as good as it gets for now. If you upgrade for whatever reason, you can go up current release (3.0) with a CKE5

Magix R1.0 w/100 R INA, 800 DID, 016 T/R, 412 TDL
Current environment:
1 Integrated T1 - voice & IP
3 Analog 2way ground start trunks
3 Analog DID wink trunks

Here's the proposed service environment and questions (which, naturally, we can't answer):

All services replaced with Intergrated access T1 PRI w/ voice & IP from Qwest.
The Integrated Access Device Qwest provides needs to know if the hand off to the PBX needs to be T1 or analog for the voice channels? ?

Of great import to us is to have DID and Caller ID, so our equipment apparently has to be capable of PRI interface... ? is it?
Do we have the correct release and/or modules to finally have Caller ID? ?

Qwest provides a Call Screening Number which we can override with our PBX - do we have the appropriate equipment to do so? ?

Thanks a gabillion...

All services replaced with Qwest OneFlex Integrated Access VoIP PRI (w/ local voice, long distance voice & dynamic IP).

The Integrated Access Device (IAD) Qwest provides needs to know if the hand off to the PBX needs to be T1 or analog for the voice channels – but of great import to us is to have DID and Caller ID, so our equipment apparently has to be capable of PRI interface... ? is it?
