Has anyone ever attempted to access the system(s) by connecting a modem to the admin port so that it could be accessed after hours without operator assistance???
Should be able to be done, as it's just a serial port at 1200 or 2400 baud, however there are so many ways to reach the internal modem through the voice mail, a DID number, a remote access line, a station looped to a line port, etc.
I know that there are other ways to get to the internal modem, but because I primarily work on Definity, I like the idea of off switch remote access in the event of a failure (ie:T-1 down) and no other trunks are available. That way I can get to the logs and see what is happening, assuming the switch is still up.
It is a project that I have been wanting to do, but havn't had the time, I am also going to work on IP access thru a Terminal Server to the Legend/Magix thru the Admin port. I was just wondering if any one else had tried/accomplished it.
Yes, there is socket, for the newer switches. However there are many Legends in remote or other hard to access locations that could be reached thru a company LAN, but the company won't spend the money to upgrade, but might spend a small amount, comparitively, for a terminal server application.
A basic local computer with the WinSPM installed should work for your terminal server. I have a customer who did just that. They access through another machine. I know it works locally, but I don't know about going across the net.
