I have a Merlin Magix Messaging R4.0 going bad. It shuts down. I suspect hard drive is going. I have always done a back up whenever I made changes to existing module. I inserted the replacement module into the cabinet. I do a restore, I get the confirmation message 'restore complete'. I access the module but their is no programming. It is not taking the restore programing. I check the revision the existing module it is R4.0 43. The replacement module is a R4.0 42. Should that make a difference?

What are you backing up to, and restoring from?

If you're talking about the PC card inserted in the Magix itself, that's only backing up the phone system programming, not the Messaging.

The Messaging has its own PCMCIA port license card, that is able to do a basic backup of the Auto Attendant settings and recordings, and the mailbox settings (but not the recordings). Through the GUI, you can do a complete backup and restore of the Messaging.

I am backing up and trying to restore to a PCMCIA 4 port license card of the messaging module. I checked the revision of the existing messaging module it is R4.0 43. The replacement module is a R4.0 42. Should that make a difference?

I really don't think it should make a difference between .42 and .43, but if it won't take, it won't take. I would download the programing GUI for R4, and try that.

You should also realize that the restore only creates the mailboxes and attendant tree's, but does not restore any greetings or attendant messages recorded. No wav files will be restored, just the configuration.

thank you telecomboy, this might clear up a lot. I was expecting the AA greeting to be restored. I'll try that.
