I'm remotely helping my IT Support Technician in a satellite office expand a Magix R4. We're installing (2) 024 TDL cards in an elready existing expansion carrier. I have network access to a PC that is directly connected to the system and running WinSPM.

Slots 8, 9, 10 and 11 were open, so we're using slots 8 and 9. Both cards have been installed and a system inventory detects both cards.

However, we're experiencing two problems...

1.) Only the new board in slot 8 is getting logical ID's and extensions associated to it. The board in slot 9 is not getting LID's and extensions. I cannot even busy-out the board in slot 9... it fails.

2.) We're using (2) 25-pair cables with a male connection on one end and a female connection on the other end to extend these boards to an Ortronics 48-port patch panel with (2) amphenol connections on the back. However, when my tech plugs a 4412D+ into port #1 of the patch panel (which I'm expecting to correspond to the first LID on board #8), he gets no dial tone or flashing red lights. He says he gets a flashing red light if he plugs into port #2, but still no dial tone. Is there a pinout issue?

I've not yet done a board renumber for a couple of reasons...

1.) I didn't have to do a board renumber in order for the board in slot 8 to work (excluding what may be a wiring issue, of course). Why would one board require board renumber and not the other...?

2.) If I do a board renumber, will it cause me to renumber some stations that have been renumbered over time? For instance... LID #1 may be extension 100, but LID #2 isn't necessarily extension 101. If I do a board renumber, will it affect the historical sysrenumbers I've done?

Check for a wiring problem with slot #1 (I'm assuming that any telephone connected to it is 100% dead).

You can take a spare 25 pair cable, connect one end to the 024TDL and punch down the pairs on the other end to a 66 block. Connect a standard surface mount wall jack to the blue/white pair, plug in the telephone and see what happens.

A board renumber can't hurt. Might be worth trying it.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

I need to clarify my comment above. The wiring that needs to be checked is for the extension that does not have any lights when you connect the 4412D+.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Thanks everyone!!! A board renumber did the trick! After looking through an old system inventory, I noticed that slot 9 had been in surrogate mode before my onsite tech installed the new board.

The board renumber fixed it, and now we'll just have to deal with the wiring issues. I will walk him through some basic troubleshooting and get back to this thread if we continue to have problems with the extension to patch panel.

Now that all 48 new stations have been programmed in the system, I'm back to the wiring issue...

My onsite tech is finding that when he plugs a 4412D+ into all 48 ports on the patch panel, he gets a blinking red "message witing" light, but no dial tone or display. The phone is obviously getting some sort of signal.

Any thoughts?

Does the same thing happen if you try a different 4412D+ with those ports? Does the LED flash if you connect the phone to a known working port?

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

what 48 patch panel are you using, what jacks are wired for it, I don't remember any one making a 48 port RJ 11

We got it to work... I busied out, reset and restored both new cards and everything came up fine. Guess I had to do that after the board renumber I did yesterday (????).

The patch panel is RJ45, not RJ11... 48-port Ortronics with two amphenol connections on the back. Works great after the busy/reset/restore.

Thanks!!!

reread your first what you have will not do , cut cable end at the patch panel and punch down the cable pairs 1 to each 1st pair of the jacks (white /blue ), skipping your violet Slade pair to get your 48 stations to the patch panel

No need to punch down... it all worked after a rest of the two new cards (which I had done, just not since the board renumber yesterday).
