I have a site with a Merlin Magix R4 and Merlin Messaging R1.5 (I think).
After a storm yesterday they now cannot dial any number with a "7" in it.
It doesn't matter if it is internal (like a VM password) or an external number (eg. 555-7539 or 800-555-7539, no 7 sent)
I know there are Touch Tone Recievers for some station cards (MLX and T/R) but I didn't think there were any needed for TDL stations and thats the only type of phones that they have.

There is also a problem with "randomly" (possibly 1 of every 10 or 12 calls) getting terrible static on a call.
This also heppens on both internal and external calls.
I have tested and checked all of the trunks (analog only) to verify that there isn't a problem with those as well.
Would this be a problem with some sort of internal "intercom" path that the system uses to connect any call to an extension?

I guess I need to know if both of these problems tie back to a problem with the same board or if it might be multiple boards that I need to troubleshoot.

If you had a power outage and have multiple cabinets then you may want to power cycle the system in the proper order.

I would follow CarGoSki's lead and start with a power cycling as mentioned. You should also take look at the error stack for any alarm codes that might reveal something. Power disturbances and lightening can generate all kinds of stuff that can upset a phone system. Hopefully the control unit power supplies are properly grounded according to NEC.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

They tried a power reset before I got there but they may not have done it correctly (2 Carrier system), so I will try that first.

The cabinets are grounded to the building ground (or the ground supplied by the electricians for the customer).

I will check the error logs and report back.

If you find a KAZZILLION errors of all different types, that points to the system being powered down and back up incorrectly.

I would 1st clear out all errors, and then do the re-cycle of power (correctly) and then look for any new errors.

Well, found out that the system was not restarted in the correct order.
Got the system restarted correctly and now all the issues have disappeared!
I should have thought about that first.
I appreciate everyone's help!!

I like to give credit where credit is due and the follow up with what actually fixes the problems.
I usually end up searching the forums for answers before posting so both stars and resolutions help me on future issues.
