I have a Merlin Magix w/CKE5 R3.0, V7.0. I am using 408 GS/LS MLX-ID modules (617E29-ML) for my trunks/stations and I have telephone service provided by Vonage. The Caller ID is not received on the MLX phone display when a call arrives on the Vonage line, however, I do receive Caller ID on the Bellsouth line. LS-ID Delay is turned on on all LS lines but it has no effect either way on the Vonage lines. If I connect a 2.4 Ghz cordless phone directly to the line port on the Vonage adapter the Caller ID is delivered directly to the analog cordless phone every time. Does anyone have a similar experience? A soulution? Vonage is not very helpful... woo woo, woo woo woo.

Avaya designs the CID feature to work with the BELLCORE standard as do all real Telcos and CLECs.

What standard is vonage using??

If they can't provide REAL telephony the customer should change service providers.

If you monitor the loop at your line connection to the Magix from the vonage box, do you hear a data burst between the first and second ring? This is the CID info. vonage may have a bad box if the answer is no, or the level is too low or distorted. I would open a trouble ticket if they have such a mechanism in the vonage organization. If not get a supervisor, the CEO, or file an FCC complaint.

Hope this helps!

Thans Jim, I hadn't thought of monitoring the loop. It is amazing how you forget the basics when you get frustrated. I'll pull the Telecordia specs and see what range the transmission levels should be in. I have a test set that can measure the in-band signaling levels. I'll give it a shot and then go back to Vonage.

I have seen posts on another Tech help site that pretty much confirms that caller ID provided by Vonage will not show on the Magix, Legend or Partner ACS. [banghead]

Vonage, Packet8 and other VOIP providers do offer killer rates and are OK for residential service, but I, myself, would be very leery of using them for business applications.[thumbsdown]

For small businesses, the regular POTs line is still the standard. If a company grows to the point where a dedicated T1 is doable, then VOIP from a Managed Services Provider may make sense. [smile]

You will get caller ID on a Vonage line - ONLY if the call is comming from another Vonage customer. I have no idea why it will work on a Vonage to Vonage call - but not on any other. Many of my customers use Vonage primarily for outbound local toll and long distance calls - to save money. Their inbound lines are standard copper POTs. As long as you have the bandwidth (good upstream/downstream speed) - Vonage QOS is fine - but needs 90 kps per line in use (in both directions).

The arrangement where VOIP is used only for outcalling is probably the best. Incalling is where VOIP users tend to run into the most problems.
