OK, I seem to be having difficulties, with appling call restrictions to extensions on my Merlin. It is all numbers, if I set the call restriction to an extn to Toll Restriction, or Outward Restriction, the users can still call out LD or if on Outward Restriction they can make outbound calls. What would be causing this. I was told that that is the first thing looked at by the phone switch before the call is made. Keep in mind I am a N00B on a Merlin.

If the system is in Hybrid/PBX mode (meaning you need to dial a 9 to get an outside line) - you need to see what the ARS restrictions are set to for each of the extentions in question. The normal is 3. Going down in number increases the restriction level. So check that under: menu, system program, start/exit, extentions, ARS Restrict - and enter the extention# plus enter - and see what it is set to. If a 3 - change it down to a 0 (for intercom only) or a try a 2 to restrict long distance. I forget what the 1 does.

I have done some more research on this and it looks like maybe there is a conflict between the allowlist and the restriction policy set on the extn. I can change the ARS restriction of an extension to a lower level and acheive the same results, but I would have to make the change on all the extns and I have over 300 to do. I can't go through all the extns and change the ARS Restriction settings that would take all day.

LoL we both replied at the same time, but my response does apply.

Changing to level 2 does a toll restriction 0 does an outward restriction, but why would the call restriction feature break?

It sometimes happens when a system had been in key mode previously and is then changed to Hybrid/PBX - without starting programming from scratch. You then sometimes get a mismatch between the normal extention restriction menu and the ARE restriction level. ARS will override the normal restriction programming. Sorry about the 300 extentions you have to do.

Is there a way to change a block of numbers at a time?

or better yet change the ARS restriction levels? so that 3 in effect would be like 2?

You can't change what the ARS restriction level means. You can try Restriction Copy - but I don't believe that will affect the ARS restriction level. Give it a try on one extention - checking ARS restriction level BOTH before and after - you do a retsriction copy. Maybe it will do both.

Well OK, I will try that but I think that is messed up as well. If I change it back to key mode would that possibly fix it?

I wouldn't try going back to key mode. Try the Restriction Copy function. You already have one extention set correctly in both regular restriction programming and ARS. Now try copying it to just one extention for now - and after the copy check what happened to both regular restriction level and ARS Restriction level. It may work out for you just fine. All you need to do is set up two extentions to copy from. One - with ARS set to 0 and regular restriction set to Outward restrict. A second - with ARS set to 2 and regular restriction set to Toll Restrict. Then see if copying works. If it does - even 300 extentions will not take that long.

First off, how is it that you have over 300 extensions to change, when a fully loaded Magix tops out at 200?

Do a print of your ARS tables. Each route has a FRL. By default, the LD table is FRL 3, the Local table is FRL 2, and the 911 table is FRL 1. Extensions are default FRL 3, so they can access all of the tables.

If you want to restrict an extension to 7 digit dialing, block 1+ dialing, you lower the extension FRL to 2.

OR you could RAISE the LD FRL to 4, and then also raise ONLY those extensions that need LD dialing to 4 as well.

If there's a greater number of extensions that need to be restricted, that might be a faster way to go.

In addition to TTT's response, this subject is covered in the System Planning document and the Features Guide document for the Legend/Magix. They can be downloaded from Avaya's web site: support.avaya.com

Happy reading!

FYI, I had some one come out and look at my system and it is technically an Avaya Legend, that at some point in time was upgraded to a Magix. (upraded processor board and upgrade software).

If the processor software is Magix - then use that programming guide to program the system. There are some minor differences.

Here is some more info:

The system wasn't changed from Key to Hybrid/PBX, it was always in Hybrid/PBX mode, verified this with an earlier config of system from the person I had come out. I had a different person come out earlier, we were changing our DS1 service to a different service provider. In this transition, the tech stated that our DS1/T1 card was incompatible with the new circuit, so he swapped the card out with a newer style card. Once he installed this and configured the board for the DS1 circuit everything seemed peachy and then now we have this issue that this thread is about.

Did you ever try the restriction copy function?? It's under menu, system program, start, extentions, RestrctCopy. Then you enter the extention you are copying from - and the list of extentions you are copying to.

I haven't yet no. I didn't really have time yet to do that. I know when I trying that our before in the 'block' section there were some things that looked messed up and I didn't proceed. I will try to find sometime today and test the 'single' out.

I like TTT's sugjestion of changing the LD FRL level, I need a little instruction on how to do that though.

The default long distance table is Table 25 - if you have Magix software on your processor. To change the default FRL you need to: press menu, system program, start, tables, ARS, Sub A FRL, 251 and enter, backspace out the 3 - and enter 4 - then press enter. If you have a secondary pool (besides the main 70 pool) - you would have to repeat this step under Sub A FRL, 252 and enter, backspace out the 3 - and enter 4 - then press enter. Then press Home or Exit to get out of programming. Next you would have to manually chane the ARS FRL of each extention that will be allowed to dial a long distance number from 3 to 4. The steps to get there were explained earlier.
