I backed up Magix system using WinSPM. When I tried to restore it using WinSPM, it could not use the file.
Any ideas?

Are you using different processors? If so, Default the new one prior to trying to upload the config. It could have an old config on it. It could also be they are different releases and then you would need to convert the file to the proper release prior to uploading it.

Do a board renumber as well, please. I don't know how that info is stored, but I've had many situations where a "default" processor refuses a restore because it doesn't recognize boards.

I can restore the backup files that are backed up using ext 510. The problems is using WinSPM.

Heh, that's funny. Yeah, I got that the error happened as a result of using WinSPM. LOL. I was asking about the specific error message. It sounds like you're able to connect to this PBX with WinSPM just fine; in fact, you're able to use it to back up the switch. But you then go to restore a config and...what?

Do you get a message that says something like "Board Mismatch" or even a generic message that says "Restore Failed"? That's what I'm hoping you'll write back with.

I can also give you a link to WinSPM 9 if you think an upgrade will help (I've heard it sometimes does).

yeah the guy had me rolling. Your patience is notable.

I have upgraded to WinSPMv9 & I am going try to backup & restore on Monday or Tuesday!
I have 50 plus buildings in the school district & 3 other PBX Systems to take care of.)
Thanks Guys!!!

It's the Operator Module that needs to be upgraded!
Hahaha!

Well good luck, man. It sounds like you have some work ahead of you. Fortunately you have a "virtual workforce" behind you to help (that would be us).

Just curious as to why you're doing a backup and THEN restore. Is this just a test to make sure you can recover from a disaster? Or maybe I'm understanding it wrong; maybe you're backing up from one switch and restoring to one on your test bench.

I don't know how new you are to this product, so forgive me if I'm telling you something you already know. But if you take a backup from one switch which happens to be running MAGIX R4V7 firmware, the backup file will be in the same format. As such, you couldn't take the saved image and restore it to a MAGIX R3. There is a technique for taking older images and converting them into the newer format, but the reverse isn't true.

Short version of the story is that you want to make sure that if you're going from one processor to another, make sure they're running the same firmware. Depending on how you respond, there's more to that story.

Have a great weekend.

Good Morning Dagwood
I'm not new to this systems but I don't have a lot of experience with this system either. My problem is I don't understand this system. At least that is what I think. The problem solveing technique with the Magix is hard for met to understand.
Yes I do have a very good “virual workforce“ & Thank You very much!
I have had this system got crazy at times & so I have had restore it & I backit up every I make any changes.
Thank You very much!

Upgrading to v9 did the trick! Thanks Guys!!!
