We have a Merlin Magix 2.2 system running in Key mode; we currently only have 7 incoming lines. I have just installed a number of 6-button phones in our production area and am in the process of programming them. Once I have the other buttons setup that are needed (intercom, paging, etc.), I only have space to program two lines on each phone (line 1 and line 2). When I use these phones to make outbound calls, I am only able to access lines 1 and line 2.

I had thought that if lines 1 and 2 were both busy, I would be able to pickup intercom, press 9 and get the next available open line. However I always get a busy signal if line 1 & 2 are busy (even if line 3 is available).

Any ideas on how I would go about making the other lines availed to these new extensions? A local company (that doesn't work much with Avaya) suggested setting up line groups, but that looks like it is for routing incoming calls, not outbound calls.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You need to go to Hybrid/PBX mode, put the lines in pools, and teach ALL your users (not just those with 6 button phones) to use System Access buttons and dial 9+the outgoing number. Calls on hold need to use pickup and the extension number that put the call on hold, or the Operator (who still gets individual line appearances) can hold and announce pick up line 80X, or park calls on park codes, or users can transfer and camp on calls. It will rock the world of those acoustomed to Key mode, but it's the way to go on a Legend/Magix.

That's what I was afraid the answer would be. The way things are done now seemed backwards to me when I started. Unlike any phone system I've used. Logic tells you that as a company continues to grow, eventually you will have too many incoming lines to try and show them all on everyone's phone.

"Rock the world" is a good way to put it. Those that have been with the company for years and have "always done it this way" are going to yell - but that is the direction I would like us to move towards anyhow. I just didn't think we would need to do it quiet this soon.

Thanks for the feedback.

I usually say something like{

"Yes, it can be a problem, but it's a GOOD PROBLEM, caused by INCREASED BUSINESS.

With the way things are, every business wishes they can have a problem caused by SO MUCH GROWTH".
