I have a Merlin system.Have a new extension that was activated. When you go to dial out you get waved off (dialing 9).So I checked another station that I know works fine, did a file compare. The only thing I see different is 1 is set for ess 2 the other (one you can't get out)is set for ess 0.
My question is how do I change it to ess 2.

Checked through options, but thats set to group and is system wide not per extension

Thanks

Assuming the system is in PBX mode the copy restriction from a working extension to that one and copy ARS restrictions to that one as well.

What kind of extention is it? Is it connected to a Tip/Ring port (012 Basic Tel or 016 T/R)? Are you in "Key" or Hybrid/PBX mode? If in key mode - the default for an analog single-line phone is no outside lines assigned. In that case you need to give that extention some phone lines - to make an outside call. If the system is in Hybrid/PBX mode - every extention gets at least one SA Ring button - so you should be able to access a line unless that specific extention is outward restricted - in which case you need to remove the restriction. As for ESS 0 - that means no ESS button has been programmed for that phone. You can program a blank button as an ESS 2 button either at the phone or using centralized programming.

Well, not exactly.

Let's consider what ESS MODE is, and what it does.

There are 2 different ESS MODES.

One is for CALL CENTERS, the other is for HOTELS.

SO, if your system is set for HOTEL MODE, and you have a set in ESS 0 STATE, it can not call out.

Just like when you check out of a HOTEL ROOM, the operator sets the ESS MODE to ZERO for your room's extension.

The only call you can make from that extension is to the OPERATOR, until the mode gets toggled to the ESS 2 mode.

Therefore, my advice would be to do the following:

(AT THE MAIN CONSOLE)

Press Menu > Exit/Start > Options > Ext Status > and see if it is HOTEL, (Which I would bet it is) or GrpCall/CMS (Which I would bet it IS NOT.)

That being said, unless you are in a HOTEL/MOTEL, change the Ext Status MODE to GrpCall/CMS.

That should fix your problem.

Let us know.
