My Merlin Magic night service is programmed to go to VM if the caller does nothing. If the caller presses 1 Merlin will ring specific phones allowing you to pick up the call.

Here is the problem...

If the caller presses 1 and no one picks up the call, the call never times out and the phone keeps ringing till someone picks it up, even though the caller has hung up.

Question...
How can I program that ring to end when the caller hangs up or how can I program it for a definitive number of rings then hang up?

Thanks

Your phone company is apparently not providing you with the reliable disconnect signal to indicate that the caller has hung up. (Or your lines are not set to LS disconnect).

Check your programming, if that is correct, take it up with your telco provider (good luck!). Or, add voicemail coverage, so that after it records enough silence the call will disconnect.

Wow, that really woke me up. We don't actually use a CO to get dialtone. We have a Adtran box connected to a PRI to get our pots calls out to ma bell. I wonder if its my adtran programming. Thanks so much for that thought Great!!
