hello, I have a T&M customer with the following : They have a 5 slot carrier Merlin Legend Model 511A. From left to right is Power card, Processor, 408GS/LS MLX, 800GS/LS, 408GS/LS MLX, 408GS/LS MLX, 016TRR. The voicemail is a Merlin Mail 4 port R3.

The customer wants to upgrade this system and add a PRI. How do I verify what release the Legend processor module is ? It says absolutely nothing on it besides the word "processor". Can they upgrade to whatever the final Legend release is ? Will the legend support PRI ?

Or do they/should they need to replace the legend processor module with a Magix R4 processor module and then "simply" add a magix 100DS1 module for the PRI span ? will they be able to retain all the other cards in the system ?

They of course want to do this as cheaply as possible, and hope that they don't need to replace much of their existing equipment. Thanks in advance.

To find the release, form any MLX display phone bring up intercom dial tone & dial *05. that will display the release.

As for the PRI, my feature reference for the R3.1 & 4.0 has PRI info in it so it goes that far back.

So you may not have to upgrade

What makes them think they need to upgrade?

An R7 Legend can do PRI just fine.

thanks folks. The system is a version 4.1 v1.2 according to what came up on the display phone. we told the customer that this version will support a DS1 card for either T1 or PRI, but for whatever reason she is still asking about upgrading. since the processor is not the right CKE version plus the legend R7 software upgrade is no longer orderable, can we swap out the legend processor with a new magix 4.0 processor and keep all the existing cards ?

if we convince her to just save money and stay with the legend procesor, can we replace the existing 800GSLS module with the DS1 module ? any constraints against doing this ?

thanks in advance

OK, they would not have to replace any equipment to move to the MAGIX.

However, there are several AFTER MARKET R7 Processors available as well.

Existing 800 GS/LS - well, if the cards are in the position you listed them in, then yes, there would be issues.

The trunks in the existing 408 modules would become 16 ports higher in the counting of trunks, possibly fowling up line and pools.
