Hello. I'm new to this forum.

We have a Merlin Legend system. One of our receptionists managed to break something.

We use the night service for our nighttime outgoing message (which includes dial by name instructions etc.) The issue I'm having is that the general mailbox personal greeting seems to be required now as well. If I delete the general mailbox personal greeting, the caller gets stuck in a loop after the night service message plays. Only when I have a general mailbox personal greeting (which is redundant to the night service greeting) will the caller be able to leave a message in the general mailbox. Can I suppress the general mailbox personal greeting without affecting callers?

Thanks

Let's see, the Auto Attendant answer, with the Night Greeting, "Thank you for calling XYZ Co. If you know your party's extension number, dial it now, or press 0 to leave a general message". The Night Dial-0/Timeout option is "Record a message in the general mailbox". Mailbox 9991 answers and says "At the tone, please leave your name, telephone number, and a brief message. Beep"

What part do you want to change?

Thanks for your quick response. My boss swears we never had the last outgoing segment, "At the tone, please leave your name, telephone number, and a brief message. Beep"

She seems to think callers would simply hear the beep. I disagree...I think the way you have it is correct. However, if I delete the third segment, which is the mailbox 9991 personal greeting, I am told the default personal greeting is activated, but it isn't. Instead, after hearing the first segment, a voice comes on saying "transferring call now" and then the phone rings and rings with no answer. I would like to either have the default personal greeting active or have it suppressed altogether.

Thanks

PK

Double check what the Dial-0/Timeout option is set to. If may have gotten changed by someone re-recording the Auto Attendant greeting.

You might also clear out any messages in 9991, and then reinitialize the mailbox entirely. That would remove any personal greeting that may have been put there.

Thanks so much for your responses.

When you say to reinitialize the mailbox, do you mean to delete it then recreate it? Or is there a menu option I don't see on my (admittedly) abbreviated system map.

If you do mean to delete and recreate it, how do I make sure I set it up the same way? I'm a bit tentative of screwing up the general mailbox.

Thanks again,

Patrick

If you have Merlin Messaging, you go to option 2, mailboxes, 9991#, then option 4 is to initialize the mailbox.

If you have Merlin Mail, you're right, I wouldn't want to delete it and try and recreate it, because a complete default of the system is the only way I know to get it back!

Maybe you could record and activate a greeting of a couple of seconds of silence (or hum, don't think you can record silence)
