Merlin Legend SMDR port failure

Have an existing Merlin Legend, R7.0, V14.2. Have phone-monitoring software, ie: Call Accounting Jr, by Comm One, Inc, on a free standing PC that connects via the SMDR port on the processor card. Use this software to monitor incoming / outgoing call data, etc. This arrangement has worked fine for years but stopped a few days ago.

When I unplug the cable from the SMDR port and plug into the Admin port on the Merlin, I can logon to the Merlin system using WINSPM with no problem. When I plug it back into the SMDR port, I don’t even get garbage…just nothing.

Have tried both selections of:
Basic SMDR
ISDN SMDR

Voice network service is provided via an AT&T T-1 circuit.

Have also changed the Call Report from In/Out, to Out Only. No difference. Still does not work.

Also tried connecting with Hyper Terminal and I don’t get any response…no garbage characters or anything. I changed the baud rate from 1200 to 2400 to see if it might change anything but no response at all. No garbage - nothing.

When I unplug the cable from the SMDR port on the card and move it down to the Admin port, I have no problem loading WINSPM and moving freely around.

My questions are:

1] Any thoughts as to what’s going on here? Nothing that I can think of, has changed in the environment / configuration.

2] If the SMDR port is bad / unusable, I believe I then need to replace the entire processor card. Is that correct? I don’t think there is any way around that. The SMDR port seems to be built into the processor card.

3] If I need to replace the Merlin Legend R7.0, V14.2, processor card, is there a way to save the existing system’s configuration translations and move them to the replacement card, or do I need to reprogram the new processor card from scratch, ie: all over again?

Would appreciate any thoughts or comments as to how to proceed here. Much thanks!

Since you reposted here, so will I!

Have you checked for any alarm codes in the error stack? It could be a defective port, but check the error stack first, then do a backup of the system to the PCMCIA card using SPM. You can also save a copy to your PC. Power cycle the system off for a few minutes, then power it on. If you have more than one cabinet, power OFF - left to right, then ON - right to left, allow 30 seconds between cabinets for the ON mode.

If all of this fails, the processor should be replaced.

You can move the PCMCIA card to a new processor without reprogramming anything as long as the processor is the same software version as the existing one.

Isn't R7.0, V14.2 the final Merlin Legend release [ponder]

Before jumping to the Magix, the OP would need to take inventory of the existing system modules and make alternative plans for any that cannot be carried forward. [smile]

True, ATL Modules (those that supported the OLD MERLIN SETS) can't be used in the Magix. There are a few others. Some will work, they just can't be accessed with the WINDOWS part of WINSPM.
