I have a Merlin Legend system that I purchased to "Learn" on. Recently I went out to use it and it would not turn on. When I slide the switch on the Power Supply I get no activity at all. I opened the power supply and tested the fuse it has connectivity.

I tested for power at the "test Ports" they get nothing The unit is on my workbench and a florescent light fell on it and banged it. I am not sure but I think it did not work after that. Is there a troubleshooting procedure to see if my power supply is truly dead? And also, are they that fragile?

Sorry if there is a post on this already I looked but could not find.

Pulled the power supply and wanted to add the model: it is a 391A3

Replace the power supply. The falling light fixture probably jarred something loose.

Given that the Legend has been off the market for about 12 years, the price of most hardware is quite reasonable. Metroline is one dealer that sells Legend equipment. Here is the link for the replacement power supply:

You might find something on eBay, but dealers will offer some kind of warranty.

The POWER UNIT isn't fragile, but something else is.

What probably broke was the large PIN that sticks out of the BACK PLANE and turns on a Micro Switch in the POWER UNIT.

Replacing the POWER UNIT won't fix this issue.

So, first thing you need to do is verify that the PIN is still OK.

It sticks out of the power supply and is about 1 1/8 Inches long and about 1/8 Inch in diameter.

If it's not there, you need a BACK PLANE, not a POWER UNIT.

In the past if the pin broke, I drilled a small hole in the back plane and put a screw in from the back through the backplane to emulate the pin.

Thanks for the replies. The pin is still intact. I had checked and didn't mention. I am going to buyu a new power supply I guess. As I only paid 120 for the entire system. Voice Mail/phones/admin phone/ manuals. It is hard to spend much more than a few bucks on the power supply. Also, It would be nice to know its the Power Supply before buying a new one. But it seems likely. Thanks again all.

If the pin on the backplane was compromised, would that have affected what would be seen at the front test points [ponder] The OP mentioned that there was no voltage present at those points.

Thanks again all. I went ahead and bought a used unit. And all is working. I am thinking that there may have been a surge on that line, either when the light fell or otherwise. I will run the new unit with surge protection.

And just to clarify the PIN mentioned was intact and contacting the switch.

Did you end up replacing the power supply & carrier or just the power supply [ponder]

Sorry for the delay in answer. I only had to replace the Power Supply.
