we have a merlin legend phone system. how do i setup our phone system to perform like a doctors office. calls during the day are answered by a receptionist, but after hours, all incoming calls are forwarded to an answering service.

i cant forward the operator console to an external number, only an extension.

thanks

Do you have POTS lines or a PRI? If you have POTS lines, set-up call forward on the first line through your provider. Then, from the reception desk, access that line, dial the code for forward and off you go.

If you want to do it through the Merlin, you need to first assign remote forward priviledges to the console extension: Menu, Sys prog, Exit (or start if Magix), Extensions, remote forward.

For the Remote Call Forward to work, you also have to program the console phone as the Principal User of the lines. The lines need to be Loop Start, and have Reliable Disconnect set to Yes for them.

it uses a PRI. im going to try the remote forward to see if that works. im assuming i do this at the operator console because that is the phone i want to forward to a answering service.

how do i program a principle user so i can make the operator phone forward to an answering service?

Since it's a PRI, and I assume it is set for Call-By-Call, principle user does not apply.

Just set up the operator with remote forward, and if you have any loop start line PORTS in your system, set them for Reliable Disconnect.

Can you give me the steps to program this? i go into sys prog, extensions, remote call forward, it asks me to enter an extension, i put in 0 and hit enter but it never asks me for the outside number to enter so all the calls that come in are routed to an answering service.

since when is 0 an extension number?

The goal im trying to reach is this >
i want the office phone system to be like a doctors office. A reception will answer during the day, but when she is gone for the day, any calls that come into the office will be forwarded to an answering service.

right now, when calls come in, they either enter an extension, or 0 for the operator. i just want all inbound calls to be redirected to the answering service whenever the receptionist cannot answer the phone.

is this remote forward, night service? how do i set this up?

I get it now. it works!!!!!

i had to add permissions to the line i wanted to remote forward.

now i understand what the remote forward piece was.

thank you all for your help!!!!

Hi, ok i ran thru the setup above on the operator console and set her extension 100 for remote forward. i forwarded that to an outside (answering service). the problem is now, only the one line goes to the answering service so now when a second caller tries to call, they get a busy signal.

Will this loop start and reliable disconnect solve this problem? if so, how do i program that?

i have just verified that we are using 4 POTS lines, not a PRI
thanks for your help.

Each time you forward it will use 2 lines. every call is 2 lines. your best bet is to put the lines on the operators phone and use the phone companies call fwd. *72 in most cases. You may have to call them and have them turn it on.
