Here's a question from an old newbie (I can wire class of service on a step or crossbar switch but the incredible complexity of these electronic systems has me scratching my head).

I'm setting up a basic Legend (rev 7) system in Key mode with an 007 MLM for delayed auto attendant. Programming the Legend with an MLX-20, have been all through the MLM sys admin menu (and have all the passwords and access to MLM sys admin mode). I've read the posts about assigning lines to a phantom or real station, arranging for coverage of that station to a call group, and having the coverage receiver be the group that includes as many of the MLM channels as I will use. But I can't find the programming items for overflow timing -- is this in the extensions/groups programming somewhere or in the MLM? Am I correct in thinking that making CO lines appear at a (real or phantom) station is the way to assign certain CO lines to certain groups which are in turn assigned to certain automated attendants?

Thanks

Overflow timing for a calling group is under Extensions-->more-->grp calling-->overflow-->select group that will overflow-->select group that the previous group will overflow to-->select overflow types...number based...timed based(which you are probably looking for) 5 seconds = 1 ring. Don't forget to assign you lines to the "overflow" calling group . and set your number based overflow to 99. You could as well..since you are in key mode...assign the lines you want to go to the Auto Attendant to an adjunct extensions-->lines/trunks-->select the adjunt you will use-->assign the lines using the bottom buttons on the mlx 20l. Next you will need to assign that adjunct VMS group coverage--> extensions-->more-->grp cover-->select your vms coverage group(probably either 1 or 30-->add you adjunct to the coverage group. Next you need to make the adjunct the principal user of those lines. Lines/trunks-->more-->principal user-->select trunk number to program-->select adjunct you are using. Lastly, you will need to assign the number of rings before it goes to the AA. This is under cover delay. Extensions-->more-->more-->cover delay-->select adjunct extension-->group cover--> select number of rings before it goes to coverage. Then assign that adjunct to AA1 in the MLM. Both methods work, it just seems like the group calling method with overflow works in all legend/magix modes where as the other method with adjuncts will only work in key mode, as you can only assign lines to consoles if there are in pools in hybrid/pbx mode. Hope this helps. Maybe too much info.

Thanks A. J. Not too much info -- got it running this time. I had missed the 'principal user' part.

Thanks to much help here our system is up and in use, but there is still one programming glitch that I can't figure out. It is a Merlin Legend system in key mode, R7 V12, with a 4-port MLM 007. Two ports of the MLM are allocated to AA and a calling group goes to those ports on coverage (we prefer to grab the call before the AA gets it). The AA works fine, callers dial a digit to be transferred to a phone. If that person doesn't answer, the call goes back to the AA. We're trying to change this so that the call goes to the dialed person's VM instead when it isn't answered. We have the remaining two ports assigned to VM, and a different coverage group. The problem is that when we put extensions in that coverage group, incoming calls (which also ring on those extensions) go to the first extension's VM instead of the AA. How do I arrange it so that VM only answers calls that ring on the extension number, rather than all the other lines on that phone?

Sorry, this was meant to be a new thread.
