I have a customer that is running a Leg. R7 and has an 007 MLM as their VM. Recently, employees have been complaining that they are not getting their messages, or the lights aren't being lit, or there is a huge delay in the delivery of the message. I had a tech go out and take a look, and even rebooted the system.

Is this a hardware issue, or something on the line-side? The only failure I've ever had w/ an MLM is the hard drive crashing, so I have little to go on. No one has changed any of the programming, and nothing has happened to the system itself (lightning, power surge, etc..) that would warrrant a failure. I'm thinking about just replacing the VM, but don't want to just throw the customer's money around hoping to solve the issue.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Jay

I may not be able to fix it, but I certainly can't break it any further- Jay

Could be the hard driving starting to "go bad" again. You could run the hard drive and port tests with a local RS232 connection - but sometimes these tests show "no problem" - even with a soon-to-fail drive. You are right in that most problems with this module involve a failing drive or corrupted software on the drive. Did the tech do a voice mail "reset" while on-site? Doing a VM "reset", using the recessed pin can sometimes resolve problems.

Well, I don't think he did just a VM reset using the pin, but I would figure that a total reboot of the system would have the same effect?

Not necessarily. I would also do a "reset" using the pin and run the tests via the RS-232 port. If the problems still persist - I would suspect a "failing" drive or software corruption. It is rarely a problem with the motherboard or port module - but it is possible.

Well, the other thing that causes VM messages to be delayed is if the HUNTING TYPE gets set for CIRCULAR, rather than LINEAR.

What happens is the Last Port (or 2) gets included in the ANSWER QUEUE, and they get too busy answering to do the job of turning on the Mesg Lights.

So, you may want to check that.

I am NOT ruling out TD's analysis either...

Eithter one or both could be causing this....
