I have a Merlin Legend system Rel 7.0 that is having some strange issues. I have a group of MLX sets (various Models) that appear to " go to sleep" in the middle of a call,ie loss of audio (talk/rec) buttons lock-up, when you touch a button to test the phones will beep at you. If you try to hang up the phone it has no affect. The immediate cure is to unplug the MLX set and plug it back in, the problem goes away and the call is still there. Eventually the phone will act up again. There are no alarms in the error log. Also the trouble is not to a specific module. All the 408 GS/LS MLX modules have been swapped out, also the power supply and processor have been replaced to no avail. The translation on the replacement processor were manually inputted incase there was corruption in the file from the old processor.

If these are MLX-10D sets - then what you are describing is a known problem. I would replace the MLX-10D's with MLX-10DP sets - which are much more reliable. You may be able to fix the problem with each MLX-10D phone by replacing the flex circuit - but these phones can also have problems with the hard circuit board as well.

Thanks, most of the sets are MLX 10D, But I am also having the same issue with the Receptionist phone (MLX20L With 1 DSS console.

Is reliable disconnect set to "on"? If not, turn it "on". Is this something that just started happening - or has it been ongoing? A "sleepy" MLX-10D can cause all kinds of problems on other phones and modules - the problem is not just limited to the specific phone in question. You can do a search in this forum on "sleepy" sets - and find additional information.

I would also check your wiring to the sets, line cords, etc. This can be caused by those types of things too.

I regards to the MLX20L w/ DSS, I have had history with the DSS causing the MLX20L to exhibit this condition of lockup or freeze, and as it turns out was told to replace BOTH the MLX20L and the DSS by Avaya support. This condition had continued for some time. I had only replaced the MLX20L at first, but evidently the DSS kills the MLX20L. When I got the second replacement, it only lasted 2 days before it died! That's when Avaya support said to replace BOTH units.

Hope this helps!
