I am about to inherit a Merlin II phone system.
We have BIS 22 phones that look old. Are there any newer
digital phones that are compatible with the Merlin II system?

Bis-22 or BIS sets only work with the ATL cards. Digital MLX sets work with MLX digital cards. Digital cards can be put inot a merlin II carrier. Check the Avaya site for vintage requirements.

I have never actually seen a card or have seen it configured, but, I have read that you can buy cards for the Digital 7406, 7410 phones. These are the phones that go onto the System 75/Definity. Not sure where you could get them at, but I know they exist. Other than that, the only other phones for the Merlin II is the older Merlin phones and Analog T/R ports.

You can only use vintage merlin sets with the Merlin II. If you would like digital sets, you would need to upgrade the processor to a Legend processor and add MLX cards.

AT&T made one card, the 008D, which worked on the Merlin II. It supported only the 4 following phones (officially.)
§ 7406D
§ 7406D with Display
§ 7406D with Data Stand
§ 7406D with Display and Data Stand

(It might have supported others, but this isn't documented.)
I have never run across the 008D card.
