I just received a CKE5 processor with a Magix release on it (apparently MAGIX 2.0 V9.0).

Originally, I had hoped to have this CKE5 to make it a Legend R7.0 V10.0. I have a PCMCIA "orange" upgrade card for the CKE5, which I understand should get a CKE5 to the Merlin Legend R7.0 V10.0 system level.

The question: Can I (or for that matter should I) use the Legend Upgrade Card on the CKE5 currently running Magix or will doing this cause a regrettable and irreversable rip in space time (and / or the CKE5 Processor)?

My ultimate goal is to get to an R7.0 version on a processor to enable my Legend to understand Caller ID (I do have a 408LS-GS-MLX-ID card).

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

I am not sure why you want to "downgrade" your processor software to Legend R7 - your Legend will work fine - even better with the Magix software on the processor. The only exception being you cannot use any Legend ATL modules (for BIS-style phones) with the Magix software on your processor. If you want to "downgrade" to Legend R7 - you certainly can. It will not hurt the processor. As for using Caller ID - make sure your 408 GS/LS-ID module is APV 32. If not - the software to upgrade it may be on your Legend R7 upgrade card. In any case - Caller ID will work with either software. If you really want to upgrade to the latest version - you should get Legend R7, V14.2 or Magix R4, V7.0 The neweset version of the Magix software provides simultaneous display of Caller Name and Number on 2 lines. The Legend R7 will display Caller Number - and you need to program a toggle button to see the Name info.

I would stay with the MAGIX 2.0 software.

- UNLESS - as TOM warned, you have some ATL phones.

If you do not have any of those antiques (Which do not show caller id anyway) then stay with the MAGIX software.

To be safe...procure a CKE3 or4 processor on Ebay or any other source and upgrade to the Legend r7.0142. I wouldn't waste a CKE5 on Legend software....upgrade the 5 to the latest release 4.71 and be happy. Otherwise do as Merlinman
advises.
