All,

I have a customer with A merlin, They just addes a T1 card to connect to a clec. The T1 is set for loop start lines. They also have merlin mail with auto attendant on. The proble is that if a inbound call hangs up without entering an extension the line is held up for apx 60 seconds and a error tone is recorded on the operator mailbox. Would changing the lined to groung start be the best way to resolve this problem or have they overlooked something else.

Thanks,

Steve

Changing the line to ground it should help the disconnect problem ,you can also try to enable disconnect supervision under lines /LS disconnect.

Good Luck.

Hey on this note. Does the provider specify if trunks in T1 are LS or ground? Can we arbitrarily pick one and both will work?

Ken elaborate on the Tie. It seems like I tried that when turning up my first T with Legend and had problems getting to work, so went with the all LS and worked fine. However, I will say the callers periodically complain of dead line on SL phones when high call volume in progress. I contributed to lack of TTRs and added modules. Maybe positive disconnect is one factor. I am actually in progress of turning up a third T at this site this week and would be a good opportunity to get all working well.

Provider is XO. Did not have good luck with them the first go around. Both T's were frac and they kept jerking me around on where the trunks were laid on the T and what number was associated with what trunk.

The provider has to indicate that which channels is what either a loop ,ground ,tie or DID ,most of the times its Tie (E&M) ,according to what the provider set up for you ,you will program your switch accordingly.

Your best bet is either ground-start or tie trunk; the positive disconnect has no effect on T1 circuits programmed for Loop Start service, only copper Loop Start trunks. Is XO forcing you to use one of their "interface units"? I have found these to be a major source of problems and in most cases, especially with the newer 100 modules, can be eliminated.

No, XO is not forcing the client to use one of their units. Local connect is subleased to Qwest and from there my 3150's and into the 100D's. Why am I experiencing ringback when the inbound call is hung up? I thought that was a positive disconnect issue.

It is a positive disconnect issue, again however, the option in the Merlin has NO effect of T1 circuits. That is why you should either switch to ground start or tie trunk's accross the T1.

Well switching to Ground start solved the problem. Thanks to all that replied.
