Hi,

I have a Merlin Magix 4.0 with Intuity Voicemail in one location, and a Partner ACS R7.0 in another location, communicating over Multitech VoIP routers. I'm essentially using the phones on the Partner system as extensions on the Merlin system, and the Partner phones use the Intuity attached to the Merlin system for Voicemail.

To do things like Direct Voicemail, I need to program the partner phones to communicate with the Merlin system. I assume I use the Merlin codde which is <Feature> 56, or if I'm programming a phone button, *56. But that doesn't work - I get the siren. Someone mentioned that I'd have to program Flash on a button, but I can't find any reference to that in any docs or forums. It's not just Direct Voicemail - I'll also need Transfer, Call Forward, Call Follow, access to System speed dials.

Any suggestions?

And a more general question - we set this up because the location with the Partner system is a satellite office -some people in the satellite office also have desks and phones in the main office, and we wanted all calls to come into our main office and voicemail to be available easily from either location. Is this commonly done? Is it a good idea?

How do you have the analogue station ports on the Magix programmed that go to the Partner?
Do you have the Partner documentation? The code for Flash/Recall on the Partner is F03 after you select the button for the feature.

On the Magix you need to check out all the feature codes for analogue stations and what will work for the features you want to use on the Partner. I don't think the Message Waiting Indicator will function because nothing is going to be sent to the station from the line side of the Partner.

The lines that go to the VoIP router are off a T/R card. I'm not sure what specifically you're asking about on the programming of those extensions.

I have the Avaya document "How to use your PARTNER phone", which is a basic users guide.

It seems like I need to program a Flash button on the PARTNER which would when pressed cause the following codes to be sent to the Avaya system - is that it?

I programmed the Flash button, but when I use it, I just get a busy signal.

I think you're right about the message Waiting Indicator - it makes sense. It's kind of frustrating though since it's fairly important to have.

The saving grace for MWI is that you receive stutter dialtone on Magix analogue stations when the indicator is on. You just won't have any visual indication. The other item is feature codes for the Magix begin with #. Those codes can be programmed on blank buttons on the Partner phones so they can be used to control features on the Magix analogue stations.

How are you trying to use the Flash/Recall from the Partner? You need to be on a Partner line appearance (Magix station) in order to use it. It won't work from the Partner Intercoms.

For your dual use where people have phones in both locations, you can cover to an analogue station so calls can ring in both locations. The Legend/Magix Feature Reference document explains all the limitations and interactions for analogue stations.

Thanks. Needing to be on a Partner line was the problem. I got call forward to work using the Magix code *56 (I'm not sure what you mean by Feature codes for the Magix begin with #). I haven't tried using Flash/Recall. I want to try that myself when I'm in the other Partner office. I'll try some other codes at the same time.

I don't get the stutter dialtones. I am working through someone else in that office, so they may be misunderstanding, but they reported they didn't get the stutter dialtone.

I also tried using outcalling to replace MWI with call to cell phone, but something's missing - outcalling to an internal extension works but not to an external number.

Thanks,
Kurt

A little off-topic (but not entirely) -- did anyone ever try the EXTenders from MCK/Citel with Merlin Magix?

On single line/analogue stations in order to activate/deactivate features/options you use feature access codes certain ones begin with #, since there are NO buttons for them. The stutter dialtone is an MWI indicator for analogue stations in lieu of a lite. It indicates a message or voicemail for that station is waiting.

As far as outcalling is concerned, you need to check the parameters and restrictions in the Intuity or the station ports from the Magix, which may be restricted by default.

As I mentioned previously most of this detail is covered in the Magix documents available for free from support.avaya.com

I see the # codes in the Merlin Communications System Single Line Phone Users Guide. I'll try them when I'm in our satellite office.

I understood what you meant about the stutter tones; the person in our satellite office was indicating he wasn't getting a stutter dialtone even when the analogue line has a message waiting. As I said, he might have misunderstood. I'll check this again myself when I am in the satellite office.

I found the problem with outcalling in another Tek-Tip forum posting - ARS restriction was set to 0 in the voicemail ports. Outcsalling works after I set them to 3. Is there any risk of misuse by allowing outcalling, other than that the user could set an outcall number in Tahiti? No one outside the system could misuse it?

Thanks for your help.

Kurt

With regard to the outcalling not working - I assume you are talking from the Magix end - check the restriction levels on the voice mail ports; make sure they are set to unrestricted and that the frl level (under extensions and ars patterns) is set to at least three. If that doesn't help, make sure trunk to trunk transfer is enabled.
