Merlin 820D adding lines in programming

Can I use a BIS-22D to add the lines
I put x10 in programming mode hit *4 and it's giving me an error
Haven't seen one of these in years and not sure if I need bis-34 set as customer only has bis-22

Did you press the administer button after going into program mode?

If you have a R1 I think you can dial #01 instead of pressing the administer button, which is the lower right button on a 34-button set.
