I am unable to find any documentation for wiring an 8-conductor jack to a merlin voice terminal connected to an 820 cabinet.

the wiring was corroded (too much moisture), so I am replacing the jack (110). but, I cannot tell if it is an old insert (usoc), or a newer one.

it seems that the pairs were connected in order, but when I tried replacing the insert with a 568a/b insert, it didn't function.

thx

Of course, you can plug an ATL phone (example: BIS-10) directly into the control unit using a standard straight-through 8-wire cable (such as an ethernet cable.) Your wiring plan has to extend this to distant rooms. Merlin Plus uses all 4 pairs.

The Merlin Plus manual says:

Signal Pair Jack pins Mod Cord color Twisted Pair
V1T 1 5 green Wh/Bu
V1R 1 4 red Bu/Wh

CT 2 1 blue Wh/Or
CR 2 2 orange Or/Wh

-48VDC 3 3 black Wh/Gn
Ground 3 6 yellow Gn/Wh

V2T 4 7 brown Wh/Br
V2R 4 8 slate Br/Wh

sorry, about sounding dumb, but

the color code seems to be the same as a 568b. hmmm. I am unable to get the set to work trying a 568b, 568a and straight thru color code sequence. nothing seems to help - but the set did work intermittently with the old insert jack.

any ideas?

Check the phone by plugging into the control unit directly using a known good cable.
Perhaps the in-wall wiring has become damaged.
Watch for pair reversal on the power pair; that will cause the phone to not work.
