Hi, I have a user which would like to use their old Merlin 5-button at their house - that means they'd be running the phone straight off of the analog telco. Has anyone done this sucessfully before? I don't mind doing some rewiring if thats what it takes.... or is there a premade adapter/box that will do this? thanks for the help!

Nope, sorry it will not work. You will need some sort of control unit (Model 206 minimum) to make it work. The controller provides the power and "intelligence" to make the phone work.

You can usuallly find some cheap 206 or 410 KSUs on e-Bay.
Then, it's just a matter of running 4 pair wiring to each of the Merlin sets.

You can use any Merlin control unit up to Legend. Magix does not support these guys.

Good luck.

i have a merlin legend phone system in my house buy you do need to use the cat 5 cord for the phones

Just keep in mind that if you use the 5 button (or any other membrane or BIS set)on a Legend System you will need to connect them to ports on an ATL module.

Unfortunately, the older Merlin Classic phones require 3-pairs to function. 2 for power, 2 for data, and 2 for voice. The last pair is optional and is used for Off-Hook Voice Announce.

So, the patch cable does need to be an RJ-45.

Legend phones can get by with the standard 2-pair line cord because they are digital and only require a pair for Data and a pair for power.

Hope this helps...

Kris
