Hi,

My little Merlin 410 with Feature Pac-1 I use at my office is always loosing its memory when the power is turned off.

Did these units every have internal battery back up or are they so old that memory retention was not available back then.

Is there a battery inside I need to check or should I just call Alexander Grahm Bell and see if he remembers how he designed this system? Just kidding. The Merlin is my personal favorite and the Merlin ring tone is the best!

Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, they have an internal rechrageable battery that needs to be replaced every 5 years or so. It is readily available from refurb suppliers and costs about $15. It needs to be soldered into place. Replacing the battery will cure your memory loss problem.

Thanks. Can you tell me how to access this battery? Is it inside the control unit or the Feature Pack itself?

It's in the Feature Pack, you have to squeeze it just right to get it apart.

The BOX LIKE Black Plastic cover fits just inside of the outer edge of what you see of the Fea Pack when it is installed into the 410.

So you have to squeeze it down (away from the edge) to release it.

Dave you can buy the FP1/FP2 battery at Refurb Supplies or Sandman in the $15 range. Check Google to get their web sites. On the feature module - just after the front faceplate, you will see 2 slots on the top and bottom (looking from the back). You need to press them both down on the top first to release the front face plate at the top, then flip it over and do the same for the bottom. Once the face plate is released, push the back connector towards the front from the back - and the whole inside will slide out. DO NOT rip the face plate off - it is attached to the two circuit boards inside. The battery that needs replacing is a big yellow one (3.6 V/90 mAh) nickle cadmium battery. Mark the plus and minus solder points - desolder the old one and solder in a new one. Slide the whole unit back in and snap the front cover on with an extra push.

Thanks all, will do. Is SandMan the guy in Chicago? IS he the one with the training videos? If so I am dissapointed that this guy will not format his training video for DVD. I just could not understand his logic. Is his video worth getting does anyone one know of another telco installers training video on DVD?

Sandman is the guy in Chicago, but Refurb Supplies may have better pricing. I never saw his training videos - so can't comment.

Refurb Supplies looks pretty good to do business with. That Sandman guy is strange. He takes no online orders only phone orders will not take any orders via email and will not make his training videos available in a DVD format.

I spoke with hime once and he has a real attitude problem, like he is doing me a favor or something. I don;t treat cleints that way and I don't expect to be treated that when when I do business with a supplier.

I don't have time to spend only placing orders in the day time. When I get back at the end of the day I place my web order at my leasure at night. Every business takes web orders these days.

I'll spend my good money with a reliable company that makes it easy to give my money to.

I found the battery I needed on Refurb Supplies.Com and a bunch of other hard to find items as well.

Thanks for the referral and advice on the Merlin battery issue!
