I always get confused and end up punching down about three times. Can someone please give me the 8 pin configuration for female jack and male plug on old Merlin 410 / 820 stuff? . Thank you!

What would go wrong? [ponder]

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Brother, I have been in this crazy business for 19 years, yet have been red/green colorblind all my life (great choice for a job, eh?)

So when you struggle with those terminations, just remember that there is a middle-aged fart out there somewhere, who is standing in front of a clean 66 block and being asked to snap down a 25 pair feed. I do it all the time. To pull it off though, I've had to tell my story time and time again, and with the appropriate amount of self-generated pity to warrant several volunteered minutes from a color-sighted fellow. Of course I always make it entertaining by telling him/her of my "Why Run Backwards, You'll Vomit" mnemonic for the color codes.

Colorblindness is not the only problem...

Lighting is everything!

Some manufacturers are better than others. I bet everyone who has dealt with 25 pair or more has had the BK-OR and BK-BR pair mixed up at some point, then there are the pair reversals or splits.

I should have been clearer at the beginning of this post. Sometimes I use CAT5 jacks, other times Allen-Tel 8 pin jacks, other times Suttle * pin jacks from AT&T. Those AT&T jacks give me the problem I think. Because the jacks are prewired with the funky color code, orange, blue, black, yellow, brown, gray etc.

Ah. I think you're looking for:

BLU --> wht/org
ORG --> org/wht
BLK --> wht/grn
RED --> blu/wht
GRN --> wht/blu
YEL --> grn/wht
WHT --> wht/brn
SLT --> brn/wht

Note that SLT or slate may instead be brown.
