Hiya -

Have posted this message with thread 798-644942 ,but thought it may be a more general question for the group....

We have an Option11 trying to connect tie-trunk to cisco 3640 rel 12.2(8)T5 - do we definitely need the VWIC (voice modules) for the cisco to convert the voice signal to data? All we really want is to pass the traffic to another router (in seperate location) and then onto another option11 to enable DN (extension) dialing between the 2 sites.
If you do need the VWIC technology - how do you connect the RJ48 presentation of the modules (as provided by cisco) to the PBX PRI card ? Currently we have the NTBK05CA co-ax cable.

Any info much apprecited!

Apologies if you've read this already in the other posting :)

As afr as I know you need to have the V^WIC modules as you need to convert thje PCM data from the Option 11C PRI card into data packets. And for this you need to have the DSP modules that are only available on Voice Cards from CISCO.

Second, to connect to the Meridian you need a different cable, a 120 Ohm cable (I do not know the Nortel Reference). But it has a DB9 jack on the end. You need to build an adapter from the DB9 to the RJ48.

Hope this helps.

Fantastic! Thanks for this information. We had noticed the other cable in the manuals (NTBK05DA - i believe) which we suspected was a possible solution, but realised there would need to be some kind of adapter built for db9 - rj48 conversion - and thought there may be a 'cleaner' solution.

Out of interest - have you seen this solution in a live environment working happily? Would be nice to know if others have succeded :)

Cheers,
Paul

Yes this works a treat. I set up a test tieline between 2 sites using cisco and a data wan. Proved it worked but had to hand the loan kit back as the company wouldn't pay.
Cisco do a cable that terminates in either rj45 or bnc.
We used the BNC version. Our 81 had the BNC connectors on the end as well.
