Upon bringing MerMail up, 2 channels of 4 are not in service. When you try to enter Hardware Administration through any method, (to make the channels active) the system crashes with "System - 0012 parity error"
Any clues?

are you back to a qpc 513? or in a opt 11 or? either way you need to reseat the station interface card for your mail, if that don't help, replace the vp-8..or 4 .. sounds more layer one then layer 7, and we can't play with much in between

Thanks for your reply. It's an option 61, release 17, with MerMail release 5. There was a problem with the hard disk filling up, so for some reason the hard drive was formatted against my recommendations. Upon trying to reload the tapes, they broke. Finally obtained new tapes and loaded MerMail. I can set up a user, leave a message, but I cannot check messages or enable the 2 out of service channels. Upon trying to enter Hardware Administration the system crashes and reboots with "System 0012 Parity Error". Replacing the VP card had no effect

do a reinstall and boot into service without your customer data base, take a few minutes when you define your voice mail ports.. that may be the problem. but should not cause the unstable condition. get a new scsi drive, more then likely that format is not to nortel specs.. you can only restore the users from a partial backup, a fullbackup starts with a disk format, but it is built on the premise that that drive starts with a nortel format. there is a hidden drive on the same disk, is what i was told by one of their ts people years ago. don't know if that is even possible, but i was trying to use a on-hand scsi to save time and it wouldn't load correctly

Here's where I am at now: We reloaded the entire MM system from 08BB install tapes. As long as all 4 channels are disabled, it is stable as a rock. We can get in to hardware config and anything else, no problem. When we enable channel 1, it starts getting wacky and unstable. If we enable more channels than that it will either crash right away or crash when we go back in to enable another channel. It's gotta be a config thing. Any suggestions? Oh - btw, we aren't using a Nortel disk. We bought some IDENTICAL disks used, and I Low-level formatted them on a PC, and we're using one of those disks. My CIO, who knows more than me about this switch is convinced that it has nothing to do with this. Any thoughts? Thanks
