How do you allow a call come to the main switchbd, then to the DN without having to press 0 for the operator who then dials the TN and the call goes thru. I need to set up a phone to do this and heard it was done thru Meridian Mail but don't know where. I looked at the mail account of a phone set that bypasses the operator but did not see anything that would allow this. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are talking about dial thru service it is setup in Merdian Mail voice services.

Can you be a little more specific please? How do you set it up?

Are the incoming calls going to a receptionist or to an Auto Attendant?

I don't really understand your question. If calls go to the receptionist first then she would transfer the call. Or are you asking if a caller can call your main line and by pass your receptionist before she answers? If that is the question, then no you would need a second number that would go to an AA that would then roll to reception if the caller didn't know what to do. Is this what you want or am I all
confused?? :)

Here is the situation. We have a site (high school) that has a receptionist that answers the switchboard during school hours. All calls go to the switchboard at the main number. You hear a short recording and must press 0 for the operator and she in turn will connect you to the teacher's extension EXCEPT for a few admin extensions which can be dialed by pressing their 4-digit extension number..."if you know your party's extension, please dial it now." A new admin person wants their phone set up this way and I do not have a clue how to do it. I did look at the tables in Meridian Mail but the services, etc. are Greek. To make a long story short we are going to call for vendor support. We have 37 sites and are trying to support them with little/no training....but we are learning.

OK then it *does* go to an auto attendant first , then the caller can zero out to reception. Go into voice service administraton, under voice menu definitions, find the AA.
Under the key selection that coresponds with the first digit of the ext (ie ext 2040 would be key selection 2),
enter TS for through dial service. It will prompt you for a menu ID for the thruogh dial which you have to make up.
From here go back into the main menu into thru-dial definitions, add the menu ID number from above. In the permission codes, add the extessions they are allowed to dial. In the restriction codes I usually add all single didgits from 1 to 9 so they aren't blindly entering digits.
This will accomplish what you want. If you need more details, contact me off line.

THANK YOU Gary. I'm going to try this this afternoon and will let you know. What is your email if I need to contact you offline?

Don't forget to add the entry to the Voice Services DN Table, else Meridian Mail wont know where to reference your menu id.

From the Main Menu, option 3, option 4, option 1.
Add a new entry, put in your menu id and a meaningful name.

As with most things, it's pretty easy when it's been explained, and you've done it a few times.

Thanks to everyone for the information. We now have the dial-thru working for the new admin person and have a better understanding on how this all works.
