I have meridian mail and about 2 weeks ago it started failing when you get forwarded to the mail you get a busy sound. I have replaced the 68k card and the led on that slowly flashes on and off. In the book I have the next step is to replace the hard drive. My question is has anyone seen this and/or is there anything else I would be able to try. Thank you

For those working on Meridian Mail, that is the one set of books that Nortel did get correct. You can't go wrong unless you ignore the book.

That is the next and final step in the book to change the hard drive so I suppose I will do that and cross my fingers. thank you

Make sure you have your system Key Codes for the new Hard Drive. Also an External Tape Drive and Install Tape itself.

I have finally gotten a hard drive. For the life of me I cannot find the install tape. I have the key code and backup tapes. Is there any hope for me?

not without install tape

no problems only solutions

You can use any mermail install tape that is the same release as what is currently installed. If you have the label that has the keycodes on it it wil give you the release. The install tapes are not keyed to the S/N (TID) or keycodes.

Thanks for the help. Guess I need to talk to other colleagues and see if any of them have what I need.
Thanks

I have found the install tape and key code. I was told that you have to use some special hard drive for the mail system, but I looked at the hard drive and it looks like a normal seagate hard drive. Is there a special hard drive I need?

Good. Is it very involved running the install tape or does it pretty much run itself?

You will need to power up the mail with the tape installed. The install is menu driven and pretty straight forward. When it is finished you will need to run a restore from your back up, that is unless you want to rebuild all of the mail boxes and configurations.. If you have the mermail books there is excellent information on loading the software and restoring from a backup. Like tnphoneman said earlier Nortel got these books correct.

I have ran the install tape and it is pretty self explanatory. Now I cannot login to MerMail does the install tape reset my password to a default one. If it does is it in the books and which one if you could tell me.
Thanks

Thank you. I pulled a bone head move and didn't turn the page where it told me what it was. It seems to be running as of now. Will know for sure tom. after it runs audit.
Thanks

My mail has been up for 5 days now so I belive that the hard drive was the issue. Thank you all for the help.
