Meridian Mail down and unresponsive

I'm not sure if I've expereienced just a modem failure or what but my mermail is not connecting after a restart. I've changed the old modem out but when I bring the terminal back up I have a "waiting" notice in the bottom right corner. To be honest, I haven't really had to deal with the mechanics on that system so I can't even remember what the correct startup procedures should be.

actually I'm seeing an AML error in the switch so now I'm not so sure it's not a card issue. again, this one's new to me so any tips on where to look might help.

ld 48 and stat aml to see what aml is used for mermail then enl aml # acms.
You may have to stat msdl as well in ld 48.

which AML should I be poking at GHTROUT?

It looks like AML 0 which is a bit unusual.
If there is nothing else on the MSDL cards you can try disabling the aml then port 7-0 on the msdl and then enabling 7-0 and the aml in that order.
Also stat the ports on the M1 side. Sometimes disabling the individual ports and reenabling will do the trick.
Probably loops 2 and maybe 3.

The aml message is telling you that the link is already up.

The ports on your switch should read logged in, disable and enable the ports 1 by 1.

You can find out the status of your msdl by....stat msdl 7

regardless of the aml status, the mail should boot into service.. remove any tape and try another power cycle.. if that does not get it up, boot from the install tape and have the keycodes ready.. you can usually restore from the back up.. if the os is bootable or you have a partial backup... if the os is corrupt, and that is my guess, then any backup that contains those files are dead..

if you boot via the install, add the keycodes, if you try to restore cust data from a full backup, the tape formats the drive and tries to install the included os... not a good loop to be in.. nortel can not help, but they will tell you to restore you need to retype all entries...

mmp40 has a reset button if you do not want to power down the shelf. Start with node 1
