Hi Folks,

The SCSI hard disk on our Meridian Mail 12 keeps crashing and it was suggested that we replace it. Is it just as easy as taking out that disk and installing a new one? Seems too easy to me. I have the program tape and can make a backup from the old disk before the switch. After that, I'm clueless.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks. One of our techs thought Ghosting the drive might work also.

just went through that, make two backups, one full, one partial, swap drives, load original software and keycodes. restore from the partial. the full is a true backup because because it's bootable and formats the drive and reinstalls the os, be sure on the partial that you highlight everything except the 1st line, voice and data in each column. i would make a hard copy of all voice services and at least a list of users with name and mb. when i had to retype mine that was all i had to start with, i am still finding secondary exten that are not entered as secondary dn's. my retype was a result of not having a partial and the os on my backup was corrupt, the tape formated the disk, blew away the os and then failed to reload. the user data recording and messagess were are stored on the same tape. nortel was in the vm on a sunday for over 10 hours. 0400 manday morning i was starting to hand type 1830 mailboxes. i did use script files but still took 4 hours.

I have successfully imaged our drive giving myself the ability to replace the drive rather quickly in case of an emergency. Then I only need to restore from a partial.

Thanks once again for all of your input. John: you provide quite a lot of helpful advice to most of the questions--thanks!
