I have a question that I cant find a good solution for in regards to the Meridian CS1000. What I need to do as a temp solution for now is set up a key on one phone at the receptionist desk that when pressed will ring our security desk BUT the security desk will be able to hear what is going on while responding but the receptionist area wont be able to hear anything as to not tip off the "bad person". I have tried a few things via the manual that I thought might set this up for us but there's always two way communication so im either missing something or it maybe cant be done. Thank you for any help on this !

With a hotline key I don't know of a way to avoid hearing something on the speaker. Even if you could block the voice path somehow you would still get the ringback tone before the call is answered.

I was able to do this once by routing the call through some 4-wire E&M tie trunks and leaving one of the voice pairs disconnected. It would require an NT8D15 trunk card.

Another option would be to use a separate analog handsfree phone with the speaker disconnected.

Or simply a switch connected to an analog hot line. There wouldn't be a voice path but security would still get an alert with name display.

Could you do it with a intercom button set to V (v.s. R)
and the security group phone (a separate deskphone) with the mic wires clipped?

just a thought...I've never tried it...

30n30w - You would still hear the ringback tone on the originating phone unless you set up the security phone for auto-answer. I would think they might have a problem with that.

But a separate phone with the speaker disconnected, even if it was digital or IP would work.
