Ok i am going to be modifing our enterprise layout and going to attempt to merge out current domain controller (holds ALL fsmo roles) with our file server into a newer faster server since both our older servers. There are not many users at this site so i figured i could do that since the load is minimal and would not have much impact on preformance. The newer server would have a P4 Intel Xeon atleast 3.2Ghz with 2gbs or more of memory.

What im questioning is I would like to add sharepoint back into the mix and get it running again. I know your really not suppose to, but what downfalls do i have with putting sharepoint on this new server as well. The new server when i get it done will be domain controller, global catalog, file server, fax server, vpn/remote access server, dns, wins, dhcp.

Currently our layout at this site is...
Srv1 - domain controller, gc, dns, wins, dhcp
Srv2 - file server, vpn/remote access server, fax server
Srv3 - exchange server ONLY

You don't say how many users you will actually have, but as a point of reference, SBS runs Exchange & SharePoint and all FSMO roles on a single server and works great for up to 75 users.

I hope you find this post helpful.

we have less than 75 users in the enterprise. everybody is spread out though throughout remote sites connected thru hardware vpn and everysite has its own dc.

but thanks mark, i was thinking that but i just wanted to ensure that was the case.
