Hello,

I'm having some problems trying to merge data from one server to another. Our server started deleting folders, all by its own amazingly! We have a full backup before this started to happen and also a backup after, what we are trying to do is restore both tapes to another server, i have tried using the "Overwrite with newer files only" option with the 2nd backup tape, but it just doesnt seem to be working. It appears to only be restoring the top level folder, with no data inside. I've tried, restoring from session and from backup media, both with various effects. So far we've had 3 different outcomes

1.The Data doesnt seem to restore at all

2.The data restoring is in a random order, dumping files any where in the top level folder(ie F:\).

3.The data restores, dumping files anywhere within the top level folder(ie F:\Users\)

Any help on this would be a great!!

Were running Win2K and Arserve V11

Regards,

Al Forber

Look at the global options for the restore job and creation of base directories.

Also, are you sure you had a full dynamic (full green) backup of the server? What I mean is - are all the files you're attempting to restore actually backed up ?

Are there any errors reported in the logs ?

I presume you are attempting a full session restore? If you merged in the data do you see all the files you want to restore in the restore view?

Was the original backup a local host server backup? If so are you restoring it in the same way (ie not trying to do it remotely via an agent, or vice-versa) ?

Thanks,

The backup was a full dynamic, we have used the tape before to restore to the same location so we know it works. When looking at the tape you can see all folders and data within them. However this time we are attempting to restore to another server, as the "admin" server has died.

We didn't have any errors show up when we restored the data.

The restore was a full restore then we tried to restore the newer files over the first tape, using the
"overwrite with newer files only". We merged the tape into the database.

The first full backup was down the an agent, however the second agent was down on the local host server. Both restores are being done on the host server.

When restoring the data, it just dumps it in the top level folder(ie, no folders stucture.)

Cheers

if you backup using an agent you have to do the restore using an agent as well.
