Merge or Append

Has anyone out there worked with the append statement
I have three files for three months. Really they just contain a service key and contract number and zip code
and I want to make them into one file so that I can send it to my user.
I looking in the help section and am following the code same as the example (all files are formatted the same) but am getting a not in proper format generic error.

Append? This is neither Teradata SQL nor MLoad/FastLoad/TPump. So which "help section" do you mean?
