In the final steps of the migration to the R15 version of ARCserve. The customer now wishes to merge the tape data currently in the previous r11.5 system to the new database so that they can completely shutdown the old system and still do recoveries from the old tapes if needed. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good way to approach this? Just thought I would ask cyberspace just in case someone had already invented the wheel. TIA

Few do regular backups from old media and prune out old backup history from the database anyways.

So in most installations the answer is should the need arise to restore from an old tape, first do a Scan on the tape to identify the sessions on the tape and which session has the needed data, and then to a Merge of that session. At that point the backup history from that session will be available from the Restore window, and a Restore By Session should be used. That is if a selective restore is needed, if they are restoring the whole session then the Merge is not needed, they can just do a Restore By Backup Media and select that session.
