Hi All,

I am new to this Forum.
I have an issue that may be quite simple, since I am not too familiar with Arcserve 2000, but which arcserve support cannot seem to figure out as yet.

I have a full backup that is 500GB in size.
The data is no longer in the database, so i am merging it in.
The particular session I need is 400GB in size, when I merge that session, it gets half way, and stops. The job marks it as successful. I tried this several times, and it stopped at different places, marking the job as successful also.

I know the data is there, but I cannot get the merge to complete to where I can get the data I need.

From Previous Full backups, I know that the directory I need restored is in:

Session 5, sequence 2.
I have tried merging this, and merging all.
I am now trying to merge Session 5, sequence 3, just for curiosity.

Arcserve assisted me in creating a brand new database, and starting the merge again. Same issue though.

Any Help Appreciated Here.

Thanks
David

Try this:
Open regidt32.exe
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on Local Machine
Open it to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\ARCserveIT\Base\Task
Highlight Task and select Edit Add Key from the menue bar.
Key Name: Merge
Class: <leave blank>
Hightlight Merge and select Edit Add Value
Value Name: DonotUseCatalogMerge
Data Type: REG_DWORD
click OK
Data: 1 *// 1 = Enabled, 0 = Disabled

THanks David.

What exactly does this do?
And what exactly do you think the issue is here?

David

Don't have time for full explanation.
Session database info is written to tape in a catalog file (see faq478-4059 for some background on it).
Merge restores this file and then puts data from it into database.
Above registry setting has program do merge by ready the whole session. It is slow, but hopefully in this case will not have the same problem as default merge and work.

As an alternative a restore by media can be used. It does not use the database. It will restore whole session, or use filters to restore specific data.
