MERGE automatically after backup

I have just performed a very small test backup of approximately 4 meg. Looking in the logs it automatically did a merge afterwards, hence I could restore by session easily.

I would like to automatically do a MERGE every night and puirge the arcserve database records older than say 4 days.

What is the best way to achieve this, the merge on my daily backup takes about an hour, which is not a problem out of office hours, but to do this in a working day, and someone to have to wait an hour to restore a text file is annoying.

I would really appreciate any comments on this or how other people do this

Thanks in advance

HI,

Your question is a bit obscure..
THe MERGE will run automaticalyy after every backup...
that is by design...

if you want to run a MERGE of a different tape you could
schedule a merge job and leave the reequired tape in the drive..

hope this is what you r looking for...

Well it doesnt seem to run after every backup

Recently to restore by session ive had to run a merge manually from tools

Any ideas why ?

HI,

Then this could be a database corruption...

check for the number of r*.* files in the ARcserve\database folder...

should not be more than 3...
stop the DB engine and delete all these files..
empty the Arcserve\Temp folder..

restart the DB engine...
if this does not resovel the problem you would have to initialize the DB...

cheers
